This has nothing to do with anything,
but this is one of the cutest pictures I've ever seen,
and I just had to post it.

Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

Alright, today I'm in more of an upbeat mood. Atmosphere is one of my top 3 rappers of all time, and this album, When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold, not only gets points for an awesome album name but is an album that I NEVER get sick of. I've been listening to it solidly for at least a year, and almost every single song on this album is on my Top Played on iTunes.

Anyway, down to business. Atmosphere is made up of Slug and Ant. They are one of the most long-lived and successful hip-hop bands, having made music since 1993.
I like this album more than their other albums mostly due to the fact that it's not club rap; it's storytelling rap, and there is some serious heart poured into it. It's not talking about fuckin' bitches and grindin' and whatever else mainstream club rap yells angrily about. Actually, thanks to Slug's vocals and Ant's synthesizers, they often seem more like ballads, and they have an easy and relaxed mid-tempo that makes it a great cruising album.

One of my favourite parts of this album is the fact that Tom Waits, my brother's favourite musician of all time (and a grisly, bourbon-drinking old man) beatboxes on the track The Waitress.

Isbells - Isbells

Gaëtan Vandewoude had played music for 15 years and for several different bands (Soon and Ellroy, to name a few) before he decided to start his own solo project. And thus, Isbells was born... and damn, I'm glad.
Eventually a band was formed, with with Naima Joris, Bart Borremans and Gianni Marzo, who all put their own stamp on the album.
Interesting fact: this entire album was written and recorded in a shabby old stable.

Overall, the sound is very similar to Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver), so if you like him, then there is no possible way you can't like this. Honestly, this entire album is fantastic, but it's worth it just for the song As Long As It Takes, which is a beautiful and soothing melody that I can't take off repeat.

Listen to it.

Recently stumbled upon Wes Mason photography, and loved these.
They are summery and wonderful and REALLY make me want to go to San Francisco!
